(Received March 9, 10.20 p.m.) Sydney, March 9. Arrived, on Saturday afternoon, the Hauroto, from Wellington. The Government has received a telegram from the Lord Mayor of London congratulating the colony upon its patriotic support to the Mother Country. Melbourne, March 9. The Age to-day opposes the idea of despatching a Victorian contingent to Soudan. It advocates the strengthening of the local defences. No enthusiasm is displayed here in connection with the proposed Victorian contingent. (Received March 10, 12.45 p.m.) March 10. The Cabinet meets to-day to consider the question of despatching a Victorian contingent to Soudan. Perth (Western Australia), March 10. It is believed the police have effected the capture of the murderers of the manager and accountant of the Union Bank, Roeburne, in January.
