[united press association.] London, February 14. Many leading Liberals want Soudan and Egypt handed over to the Saltan. The contract for the railway between Suakira and Berber has been let. Irish workmen are being dismissed in London. 4000 are now out of work. Manchester and Liverpool ate going to follow suit. Courtenay and John Morley, M.Ps,, are arranging for a confeience of all members of Parliament opposed to the continuance of the Soudan war. Many of the Liberals urge that the Soudan and Egyptian muddle be handed over to the Sultan. They are alarmed at the prospect of the boundless expense. The Swedish brig Featal, which sailed from Boston for Brisbane, put into New York on January 29. A terrible mutiny had occurred. The captain was' attacked in his berth at night I>v the carpenter with a broad axe, but aided by the mate beat him off and also the steward, who had joined the assailant,
The captain, after staunching his wounds, sallied out with the mate and faced the carpenter, steward, and three sailors armed with axes, sheath knives, and capstan bars. A ferocious fight ensued, but the captain and mate triumphed. The captain’s son (second mate) had been murdered by the mutineers and thrown overboard. Finally when the mutineers-submitted, the captain having no leg irons or handcuffs to secure them, shot the steward and carpenter dead, and threw the bodies overboard. The seamen then agreed to obey orders. The Government have given the contract for construction of a railway from Suakim to Berber to Lucas and Co., contractors, who will provide all the material, which Government undertakes to transport to Egypt. The work will begin immediately. The sentries are trebled at the Sheerness powder magazine in consequence of the appearance of suspected dynamiters, Guards are also placed at Eton College. The War Department are organising a corps of balloonists to form an engineer corps for experiment service in the Soudan. There is a prospect of Edmund Yates being soon released. The confinement has told upon his spirits and health. 1500 Irish have been dismissed from buildings in course of construction in East London up to February 14tb. Similar movements have been started at Manchester, Liverpool, and other provincial centres.
