Dunedin, December 10.

A somewhat singular accident has occurred 10 David Dewar, of Milton, proprietor of a traction eugine and threshing mill. He was camping for the night on a round hill, and having disconnected the traveling gear, was intending to pump some water out of the engine. Being on an incline it started off with the mill behind it, and soon attained a great speed. A man named Kelly, also on board, jumped off, but Dewar stuck to it until it ran over an embankment and capsized. He was severely crushed; he had one rib severed from the backbone and three others fractured, and was badly cut and bruised. The engine, mill, etc., were completely wrecked. Wellington, December 10. The weather here is very wetscarcely any spring has yet been experienced.

The Hon. Ml- Ballance returned from Wangaooi this morning. A shipment of antimony ore arrived here from Endeavour Inlet to-day. It will be sent home by a sailing vessel. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Waring Taylor was committed for trial on two other charges accusing him of misappropriating trust funds.

The steamer Oreti, which went ashore on the West Coast some months back, and was re-launched, coming here for repairs, is now ready for sea again. The operations of re-launching and repairs cost .£SOO, and the vessel is said to be better thau when she was first built. In her trial trip to-day everything went satisfactory, the steamer going a knot faster than before.

A man named J. Plaskett, while taking a load of coal from the Coalgate to Horomata, fell off his dray, the wheel of which passed over his body, inflicting injuries from which he died.in a few hours.

The Rev. Abraham Ridings was committed on three charges of indecent assault; bail £4OO.
