[REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. CRICKET.—ALL ENGLAND V. VICTORIA. (Received November 14, 10 p.m.) Melbourne, November 14. The cricket match between the English team and eleven of Victoria commenced to-day. Owing to the unfavorable weather the attendance of spectators was small, and play was stopped on account of rain at intervals during the day, not much interest being taken in the match. An excellent wicket was pitched, and the ground was in. good order.
The visitors went in first, and at the close of the day's play had lost six wickets for 168 runs. Shrewsbury was bowled for 80; Barnes not out, 60 ; and Briggs, not out, S. The home fielding was rather weak, and, owing to the rain, the wicket was rather bumpy. CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB METROPOLITAN MEETING. Christchurch, November 14.
