It is announced that Earl Northbrook proposes the abolition of the present standing army of Egypt, and that in its place there should be maintained a force of niue thousand police. The Egyptian Government, it is understood, are opposed to Lord Northbrook's scheme. (Received October 8, 1 p.m.) October 7. Tenders for the New South Wales loan of five and half millions, at 3£ per cent, and minimum £92, were opened to.day. The total amount offered is found to be £13,700,000.
