SUCCESSFUL FLOATING OF NEW SOUTH WALES LOAN. (Received October 7, 10.10 p.m.) London, October 6. The Homeward mails, via Suez and Brindisi, dated Melbourne, August 26, were delivered to-day. Arrived, at Plymouth, the P. and 0. steamship Peshawur, from Melbourne, August 6. (Received October 8, 11.30 a.m.) October 7. It is announced that Earl Northbrook proposes the abolition of the present standing army of Egypt, and that in its place there should be maintained a force of niue thousand police. The Egyptian Government, it is understood, are opposed to Lord Northbrook's scheme. (Received October 8, 1 p.m.) October 7. Tenders for the New South Wales loan of five and half millions, at 3£ per cent, and minimum £92, were opened to.day. The total amount offered is found to be £13,700,000. Tenders at £93 12s 6d will receive 55 per cent, of allotment, and those above that price in full. [special to press association.] London, October 2. A cablegram from Australia, which has been published in a London paper, stating that the Duke of Manchester had been attacked by blacks, caused considerable sensation and anxiety. October 3. The late Professor Eraamua Wilson has left a legacy of £200,000 to the Royal College of Surgeons. The various Agents-General, excepting Sir Saul Samuel, request an interview with Lord Derby, to press the settlement of the Pacific question.
