London, August 28. The report that the Chinese troops had invaded Tonquin and massacred the French soldiers stationed there, is now discredited.
Any occupation of the Chinese mainland by the French is considered impossible.
Foo-Chow, September 1. On Saturday Admiral Courbet notified the Chinese authorities that he had completed bis intended operations in this place. The French fleet subsequently sailed, but their destination is unknown. The whole of the Chinese defence works are in a miserable condition.
