(Received August 20, 8 p.m.) London, August 19. The cricket match at Cheltenham Australians v. Gloucestershire was continued to-day. The Australians’ first innings closed for 402; Murdoch, 89 ; Scott, 65; Giffen, 91; Bonnor, 52. At the close of the day’s play, the home team lost seven wickets for 38 runs, the ground being much cut up. and the visitors bowling almost unplayable. Sydney, August 20. Clifford, the oarsman, has issued a challenge to all comers to row a sculling match for any sum up to ,£SOO a side. Sir Modred lias been scratched for
the Hawkesbnry Handicap. Great dissatisfaction is expressed by the public, with whom the horse was a strong favorite.
[special to press association. | London, August 18. On Friday, the betting on the sculling match, Hanlan v. Beach, was 5 to to 1 on Hanlan. An offer has been made by a gentleman to back Wallace Ross against Beach for .£IOOO. Another telegram states that Wallace Ross has issued a challenge to row Beach on the Thames for £SOO a side. The Times suggests that Hanlan, Beach, and Teemer should row a sculling race oh the Thames in the Autumn.
