[united press association.] Eoss, August 1. Two men have jast brought eight pieces of gold picked from a newly discovered outcrop on the Hue of the Cedar Creek quartz reef. The heaviest piece weighs three dwts. The party have taken up a lease, and the ground all round is being rushed. Dunedin, August 1. At the Cromwell Post Office, two of the officials in counting letters (moistening their fingers to do so), experienced sickness aud internal qualms. It was found on examination that a package of strychnine amongst the letters had got loose. Oajiaru, August 1. The Hon. R. Campbell, M.L.C., has given £SO, and Mr George Jones £2O, for bursaries in connection with the Waitaki High School, which, with the £3O given by Mr Shrimski, M.H.R., £IOO has been now obtained for scholarships. Andrew Ankentread, a well-known farmer, was found dead in his bedroom this morning. The cause of.death is not known. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
