♦ [REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. > —< PROBABLE BRITISH EXPEDITION INTO SOUDAN. NEUTRALITY OF THE SUEZ CANAL. THE PLAGUE IN ASIATIC TURKEY. (Received June 18, 10,15 p.m.) London, June 17. In the House of Commons this afternoon Mr Gladstone was questioned regarding the railway material which it is alleged is being prepared at Woolwich for use at Souakim. In reply, the Premier admitted the truth of the statement, and announced that Government had under consideration the expediency of constructing a line of railway from the port of Souakim to the Nile, in view of employment for transporting troops composing an expedition which may possibly be despatched into southern Soudan during the autumn. (Received June 19, 1 a.m.) June 18. It is currently reported in diplomatic circles that parleying regarding the neutrality of the Suez Canal, which for some time past has been progressing between the French and English Governments, is virtually concluded, and that a satisfactory agreement has been arrived at. Constantinople, June 17. A serious outbreak of bubonic plague has occurred at Bagdad.
