THE LATE A. L. KING.
The news of the death of Mr A. L, King, which took place at noon yesterday, after a short but painful illness, will be received with deep regret not only in Hokitika but in many other parts of Westland. Mr King was a resident of Okarito in the early days of the Coast, and when that place began to decline he settled in Hokitika, and has since been host of the well.known hotel the Exchange. The deceased gentleman was not only an estimable private citizen, but took an active interest in local public affairs. He represented, for a time, the Okarito district in the County Council, and was at the time of his death a member of the Hokitika Borough Council, in which body he held a seat for some years, and also of the Eire Brigade and Benevolent Society. He was also formerly a prominent member of the Hospital Committee, and indeed he was active in taking part in all public matters concerning the interests or welfare of the community. Mr King was also a leading member of the Masonic body, and his loss will be sincerely mourned by the brethren. Mr King was a native of Dantzig, Prussia. He was 59 years old, and leaves a wife to deplore his death,—West Coast Times.
