KUMARA HOSPITAL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held in the Town Hall last evening; present— Mr W. Nicholson (in the chair), Messrs T. Davidson, H. Burger, G, Watson, L. Ziegler, C. Stockman, J. Hannah, and F. Payne.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Wardsman’s Report for the month of April was read and received. It stated that the total number of inpatients treated during the month was 12, of whom 7 were discharged relieved or cured, 1 died, leaving 4 still under treatment. Michael Lee, Thomas Walmsloy, John Pearce, and Peter Grant were discharged cared ; Mrs Edwards and G. Allman were discharged relieved; J. Davies was relieved and made an out-patient; and Frederick Andrews, Andrew Carlstrom, John Gortleman, and George Allman were still under treatment.
In reply to an application from Dr. Clarke, Hokitika, for fee for examining the late Malcolm Hyndman, the Secretary was instructed to inform that gentleman that the fee was payable by the Government, and not by the Hospital Committee. The Secretary was also instructed to write to Dr. Giles on the subject.
The balance-sheet for the quarter ended March 31st was read and received, and ordered to lie on the table till next meeting. Mr Burger, for the House Committee, reported that the necessary outbuildings had been constructed, and the Hospital yard put in repair. The House Committee were authorised to construct a drain and get paths made, in accordance with their recommendation.
Dr. Monckton addressed the meeting in reference to additions.
The consideration of Rule 3 and of additions were held over till next meeting. Rule 3 is as follows 3. That yearly nad half-yearly ticketholders be entitled to the benefit of the Institution after the expiration of the first month, free of charge, while residing in the Hospital. Non-ticket holders will not be admitted except in case of severe accident, or paupers, or in payment of .£1 10s a week, in advance, or on finding responsible security for the payment of that amount. Ticketholders to be entitled to advice at the Hospital as out-door patients, but shall find their own medicine.—N.B.—Persons who are admitted to the Hospital as paupers and who are afterwards found to be in a position to pay will be required to pay the sum of 30s per week.”
The Treasurer Fete Committee (W, Nicholson, Esq.) handed over the balance of the funds accruing by the fete, which amounted to £2OB Bs. It was resolved—“ That a vote of thanks be accorded to the members of the united Fete Committee for the zealous, hearty, and energetic action they had taken in the arrangements and conduct of the late fete for the benefit of the Hospital, and that the same be recorded on the Hospital Committee’s minute-book.”
Mr Payne was elected on the House Committee, vice Mr H. Hope, who retired by rotation. .Receipts were handed in as follows :
Accounts to the amount of £73 14s 6d were passed for payment; and the meeting was then adjourned.
