EL MAHDI AND THE SULTANSHIP OF KORDOFAN. (Received April 6, 6 p.m.) Cairo, April 3. Latest despatches from Souakim announce that Major-General Graham has left that place for this city. A detachment of Evelyn Woods' force now stationed in Egypt has been ordered to proceed to Souakim, to iovm a garrison to be kept at that port. (Received April 7, noon.) Intelligence has been received from Kassala, a town in Soudan near the frontier of Abyssinia, that the Egpptian garrison there is in a critical position, and the Governor of the town has appealed to the British for aid. [special to press association.] London, April 1. El Mahdi has refused to accept the offered Sultanship of Kordofan. The arrival of a British force is daily expected at Khartoum. April 2. Gordon Pasha's letters from Khartoum show that the outlook of that city is very gloomy. He expresses himself as " hoping against hope."
