To-day has been observed as a day of general mourning throughout the colony for the late Duke of Albany. The majority of the citizens in Melbourne were dressed in black. Flags were flown on all the public buildings at half-mast. (Received April 6, 10.30 p.m.) Melbourne, April 5. The annual intercolonial (Victoria v. New South Wales) eight-oared boat-race was rowed to-day on the Yarra River, and after a close contest was won by the Victoriaus by half a length. The iuquiry into the circumstances attending the collision between the steamships Wairarapa and Adelaide in Port Philip on the 20th February last was commenced to-day by the Victorian Navigation Board. *The examination of the Adelaide's witnesses was proceeded with, ami the inquiry has been adjourned to Mou-1 y.

(Received April 7, 2.20 p.m.) April 7. The Wairarapa and Adelaide inquiry •was resumed this morning. Altogether there are seventeen witnesses from the Adelaide and eighteen from the Wairarapa to be examined. Obituary.—Judge M'Farland. (Received April 7, noon.) April 7. The persons wounded by the recent railway accident are all progressing favourably towards recovery. The members of the Board of Inquiry have inspected the scene of the disaster. (Received April 6, 10.30 p.m.) Sydney, April 5. Dr. Barry arrived this morning and met with a hearty reception from the clergy and laity. An address of welcome was presented to him, and a special service was subsequently held in the Anglican. Cathedral. All the ships that were in port to-day fired minute guns in commemoration of the late Prince Leopold, with half-hour intervals. The firing lasted throughout the day.
