[SPECIAL TO PRESS ASSOCIATION,] London, March 4, The Arab Sheiks generally have welcomed Major-General Graham’s advance, and it is reported that El Mahdi is now peacefully disposed. MajorGeneral Graham is likely to advance on Tamdumui, Osman’s stronghold. Speaking at a banquet given to Sir Hercules Robinson on his departure for the Cape, he strongly advocated the establishment of an Imperial Federation Council. Lord Derby also spoke, expressing doubts as to the expediency of such a thing. The English Government have determined to recognise the Portuguese claims on the Congo.
