THE INCENDIARY FIRES IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ARREST OF DREW, A SUSPECTED INCENDIARY. (Received March 7, 10 p.m.) Sydney, March 7. In the Legislative Assembly last night, the Estimates came up for consideration, and the House sat in Committee of Snpply until daylight this morning. Good progress was made, and a large number of votes passed. Sailed, yesterday afternoon, the Union steamship Ringarooma, for Auckland. Arrived, last night, the Union steamship Hauroto, from Wellington. (Received March 8, 0.35 a.m.) Melbourne, March 7. The cricket match between the Australian team and fifteen of Victoria commenced here to-day. The home team went in first, and at the close of the day’s play had lost seven wickets for 171. Horan was the highest scorer, with 83. Not much interest is being taken in the match, and the attendance of visitors to-day is small. It is now stated to be probable that Spofforth will after all proceed to England with the Australian team. (Received March 8, 2.20 p.m.) March 8. The latest betting at midnight on the Champion Race was as follows ;—2 to 1 on Mai’tini-Henri; 10 to 3 agst Commotion ; 7to 1 agst Vernet; 10 to 1 agst Navigator. Adelaide, March 8. Another fire which is believed, to be the work of an incendiary, occurred here yesterday. The police have arrested a man named Drew, a photographer out of employment, who is suspected of being concerned in this and other recent fires. The prisoner had a quantity of spirits and chemicals in his possession.
