The telegraph line to Port Darwin is still interrupted, north of Peake. We reprint a few unpublished cablegrams which appear in our exchanges this afternoon. The Christchurch coach arrived this afternoon, bringing a large quantity of mail bags from the East Coast, which included Australian and Suez mails.

A miner named Gortleman, but better known as “ German Jack,” was struck on the foot by the edge of a plank, occasioned by a stone falling from the face, in Rowe and Bowden’s claim at Larrikins this afternoon. He was brought down to the Hospital by relays of miners, and at once attended to by Dr. Monckton, from whom we learn that one of the small bones of the left foot is broken, and two pieces are dislocated. The doctor reduced these, and states that the man is likely to do well.

A cricket match was being played at Greymouth this afternoon between a Hokitika and a Grey team. The names of the two elevens are as follow—Grey : Clements, Guinness, Foy, Kitchingham, J. Malcolm, Murphy, Perkins junr., A. Malcolm, Aldridge, Perkinssenr.,Frickcr; emergency : Mathicson. Hokitika: Northcroft, Bowen, Boddington, Tennant, North, B. Houseley, W. Houseley, Greville, Hansen, M. Levy, and Oliver; emergencies : Lynch and Convery.

The fifth of the course of sermons on Spirits and the Spirit World,’’ by the Rev. George Hay, will be delivered iu St. Andrews’ Presbyterian Church to-morrow evening, at seven o’clock, when the particular subject of the discourse will be 11 The Spirits iu Hades”

Present Period, ” 1; The ./Esthetic Lady, :! “ Bob Sacks, brother to Jem Baggs,” and other characters, in rapid succession. The entertainment is to be concluded with the burlesque of “ Robinson Crusoe and Man Friday.” The newly-elected Executive Committee of the Miners Association will hold their first meeting at the Templars Hall, Dillman’s Town, on Monday evening next, at half-past seven o’clock. The names of the Committee are as follow : Peter Dungan, President; Ambrose Crebar, Vice-President; Wm. Morris, Treasurer ; Fred, Marshall, Secretary ; G. Voysey, M. Barrowman, G. Watson, W. Wells, John White, David Barnett, G. Brown, C. Harris, H. Hope, Members of Committee.

The County Chairman requests that all persons to whom the County Council are indebted, will send their accounts in not later than Monday next, the 10th inst., at 5 p.m. The Gazette of the 28th ult. notifies the appointment of Thomas Radford King, Esq., M.D., to be Surgeon to the Hokitika Prison, vice Dr. James, resigned. Appointment to take eflect from the 13th January, 1884. In conformity with clause 65, of "The Land Act, 1877,” it is publicly notified that William O’Hagan has applied to the Waste Lands Board, Hokitika, to accept instead of himself Thomas F. Peart as the selector and occupier of allotment Nos. 54 and 55 in deferred payment block E (1) Waimea Survey District, containing 237 acres 1 rood.

At the Preston Cattle Sale Yards, on Monday next, at 12 o’clock, Messrs Naxxcarrow and Co. will submit to auction a lot of grand quality bullocks, heavy weight cross-bred wethers, and prime dairy-fed pigs.

The Supreme Court Criminal sittings open at Hokitika on Monday morning, at ten o’clock. His Honor Mr Justice Williams, before whom the criminals will be tried, passed through here by the coach from Christchurch this afternoon. The criminal calendar contains the following : The Queen v. Maloney and Hughes, arson; the Queen v. Donoghue, murder; the Queen v. Smith, cattle stealing. There are also two sets of depositions against Ah Yung, one for murder, the other for attempted murder ; accused is a Chinaman.

A complimentary benefit to Mr P. Schulze, who, as a musician, has aided many charitable causes, was given at the Duke of Edinburgh Theatre, Hokitika, last evening. The Times says:—“The attendance, though good, was not so large as was expected. The performance opened with an overture by an able band, who during the evening gave several other performances of equal merit. Conspicuous .among the professionals were Messrs Linn and Schulze, and the amateurs merit a good word for their excellent time and tune. The performance opened with a musical comedy “Maid or Wife,” in which Mrs Linn, Miss Stanton, Messrs Stanton, Shrives, Kirk, and Wells took part. Nearly all fulfilled their parts well, and the curtain fell to applause. The entertainment concluded with “The Omnibus,” in which Messrs M‘Keegan, Missen, Wells, Stanton, Mrs Linn, Miss Stanton, Miss Fitzwilliams, MissM‘Pherson, and Miss M‘Carthy took part. The National Anthem concluded a very good entertainment. This evening the performance will be repeated by request.” The Grey River Argus received the following telegram from its correspondent at Ahaura yesterday morning :—“A female salmon turning the scale at 10|lbs, 20 inches long, was caught in a net at Ahaura yesterday. It was unfortunately sent to Reefton by coach. Duncan M‘Donald, a good authority, states positively it was a salmon.” At the Appeal Court, Christchurch, on Thursday, Justices Johnston and Williams gave judgment in Hunt v. Gordon, practically in favour of Sir 1 Arthur Gordon. Hunt’s counsel obtained leave to appeal to the Privy Council. The reading of the judgment occupied more than an hour and a half. Judge Gillies, who was not present, had agreed substantially with his brother Judges. A gigantic apple over nine ounces in weight has been grown by Mr A. J. Allom, at Parawai. At least two and a-half millions are spent every year in the colony for drink. Mr E. Raper, the footballer, is dead. He captained the New South Wales Football team on its tour in New Zealand. It is reported that a new gold-bearing quartz reef has been discovered on the West Coast of Tasmania.
