A bag containing 201bs weight of dynamite, with clockwork and machinery, was found to-day in a cloakroom at Charing Cross Railway Station, An infernal machine was also found at the Waddington Railway Station. This discovery indicates that there is a project on foot to destroy the London terminus stations, and considerable alarm prevails in the public mind. (Received March 1, 0.50 a.m.) February 29. In the House of Commons last night, the Hon. W. Gladstone introduced a Bill for the reform of the franchise. The measure provided for a uniform qualification throughout the three kingdoms. The Premier announced that the Bill for dealing with the Redistribution of Seats would be introduced next session. (Received March 1, 2.20 p.m.) Evening. The infernal machines found at Victoria, Charing Cross, and Paddington Railway Stations are identical in construction, and are shown to be of American work. The clockwork and mechanism in the one found at Paddington had, it is proved, failed, or serious explosions would have occurred. > < [special to press association.] London, February 25. The Queen will visit Germany in April. Sir Julius Vogel will leave for New Zealand in the Tongariro. Sir Arthur Blythe denies that he has any intention of standing for Falmouth at the next general election, as has been reported. Sir Henry Parkes, speaking at Glasgow, said that New South Wales would be able to render valuable assistance to the mother country in the event of war, February 26. The mutton by the s.s. Iberia is realising 5-£d per lb. Mr Gladstone has submitted the name of a new Governor for Victoria to Lord Derby for approval. February 27. The South Australian gunboat Protector will make a trial t.iip in the middle of April, and will sail soon afterwards. Her guns have already been tried, and proved to be excellent. The Rev. Sydney Linton will be consecrated to the See of Riverina on the Ist of May. Russia has joined Prince Bismarck’s League. Great interest attaches in Berlin to the warm reception accorded to the Grand Duke Michael and General Gourka. A sporting and agricultural correspondent of the Australasian is at present Travelling in New Zealand representing that journal.
