PROSPECTING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Committee of the Prospecting Association was held on Friday night last; present —Messrs Burger (chair), Ziegler, Rudkin, Mulvihill, o'Hagan,and Hannan (Hon. Sec). The minutes of previous meetings held in September last were read and confirmed. Copies of letter and report sent to the Coimty Council were read and approved of. A letter was read and received from the County Clerk, stating that the County Council " would prefer aiding the association in procuring a Tiffen boring machine to the extent of onesixth the cost, than for offering a reward for fresh gold discoveries. The best machine would cost .£340, and the Council was not yet sure whether such an implement is suitable for work on this coast, an inferior one having been tried at Ross, and proving a lamentable failure." It was resolved that fresh applications from persons willing to prospect under the association be invited. Applications to be sent in not later than 7 p.m. on the 11th February, inst. Specifications and conditions to be seen at Mr Hannan's. It was resolved that the Secretary request Mr Anderson to return the windlass, rope, and bucket belonging to the Association. It was also resolved that the Secretary inform Mr Berdinner that the committee cannot entertain his account, he having been already paid for what work he had done. After going into their financial position the committee found that they had funds available equal to the amount expended, which would enable the committee to continue at the same ratio, another four mouths prospecting. The committee adjourned till the lltb February inst.
