[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, February 2. Two sailors of the Sarah W. Hunt crew have instituted proceedings against the captain for fraudulent misrepresentation and breach of contract. They claim i-1500 damages. February 3. A slight shock of earthquake was felt on Saturday afternoon. About seven o’clock last evening Thomas Ballantyne, whon driving home to his farm in Thames road, Riccarton, was thrown from a waggonette, through the horse bolting. The accident happened near his house, and was seen by by-standers, who picked him up insensible. Dr. Nedwell was at once sent for, and, on arrival, pronounced that death was instantaneous, as his neck appeared to be broken by the fall. When the news reached town, it produced much regret. Port Chalmers, February 3. A boat containing four men and two women was collided by the big dredge this afternoon through carelessness in steering. The women were pluckily rescued by the dredge-keeper and the men were picked up by a waterman. Auckland, February 3. The P.G-.L. of Masons, at the meeting presided over by Sir F. Whitaker, the P.G.M.,[congratulated him on his knighthood. The Cricket Association lost £sl by the visit of the Canterbury team, and are therefore unable to invite the Tasmanian team to visit Auckland.
