THE FIRING FOR THE SILVER MEDAL. The eighteenth competition for the Company’s silver medal took place on Saturday last, when Volunteer Smith won the medal for the third time, so that it now becomes his absolute property. Sumsion 15 12 9 339 The match commenced on Saturday, the 29th September, and has continued on every succeeding Saturday, except on the Btb December, when the District prize firing took place. Besides the silver medal, the entrance money (£1 10s) was appropriated for a second prize, and the sigting shots, however much they may have been, for a third prize. Appended are the names of all those who won the medal in the eighteen competitions :
In taking the average the shooting has been very good right through. But the pointsmen, i.e., those who have received points, have had the best of the handicap, as may be instanced from the fact of Vol. Sampson, a scratch man, having been beaten two or three times when he had obtained the excellent scores of 54 and 55 out of a possible 60.
