[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Jaunary 3. Donald Dinnie, being dissatisfied with the Judge’s decision at the Caledonian sports on Tuesday, challenges any man in New Zealand to dance a Highland Fling for £IOO a-side. On the 25th ult., about one a.m., a man named Patrick Cromley was drowned in the Taieri Elver. He attempted to ford the river. Two men heard him call for help, but they were unable to render him any assistance. The body has not been recovered. Deceased was an old pensioner, and employed on the Otago Central Eailway. Wellington, January 3, His Excellency the Governor, accompaniedby Major Eccles, A.D.C., left for Lyttelton in- the Hinemoa at 3.30 this afternoon. Lady Jervois will, it is expected, leave here on the 19th inst., and join Sir William af the Bluff, from whence they will visit the West Coast Sounds.
