MINERS ASSOCIATION.
A special meeting of the Executive Committee of the Miners Association was held last night at the Templars Hall, Dillman’s ; present—P. Dungan, Esq. (President), Messrs Morris, Bafrdwman, Yoysey, Wells, D. Barnett, Brown, Watson, Harris, and Marshall (Hon. Sec.). The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported having received a cheque for .£lO from the Westland County Council as a donation to the funds of the Association. On the motion of Mr Brown the Secretory was instructed to duly acknowledge receipt of cheque, and return the thanks of the Committee to the County Council for their kindness. The President, in opening the meeting, pointed out the importance of the object of the present meeting, and that was to take initiative measures to consider the various matters lobe brought forward at the forthcoming inquiry into the working of the sludge-channel and wuter-iace; and also to take necessary
action so as to bring about a reduction of the price of water. Whereupon a long discussion took place, in which mu.-h information ami many valuable suggestions bearing on the object of the meeting were elicited. It was ultimately resolved that a sub-committee, consisting of the President, and Messrs Marshall, Morris, Barrowmau and Voysey be appointed to report to the regular meeting, to be held on Monday next,, on the best means to adopt to procure evidence and otherwisetake initiatory steps toassistin the forthcoming inquiry into the working of the sludge-channel, and waterrace ; and also to bring about a reduction of the price of water. It was also resolved that the next meeting o'f the Committee be called by advei tisement, particularly requesting every member to attend, as there will be important business to transact. The meeting then adjourned till Monday next, at 7.30 p.m.
