AN ANTI-REDMOND MEETING. (Received March 7, 1 a.m.) Melbourne, March 6. Dr. Beauey has been elected representative of the North Yarra Province in the Legislative Council. The Australian overland lines are interrupted. (Received March 6, 9.30 p.m.) The Victoria Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, second day, for the Australian Cup, two miles and a quarter. The following horses started : —Commotion, Cunnamulla, Odd Trick, Sardonyx, First Water, Coriolanus, Mistaken, King of the Vale, Lesbia, Navigator, Willeroo, and Guesswork. The winner was ridden by Bales. Betting at the post was 2 to 1 on Navigator. Mistaken and King of the Vale made the running, the favourite lying nearly last until the turn for the straight. On entering the straight Navigator went forward, and jnst .won pretty easily, Willeroo second, Guesswork third. Time, 4mins. 2secs. The Sires Produce Stakes, three quarters of a mile, was won easily by Warwick, Off Color second, St. Laurence third. (Received March 7, 12.45 p.m.) March 7. In the Legislative Assembly last night the debate on the Address in Reply to the Governor's speech and Mr Service's amendment thereto was resumed. The principal speakers were Messrs Young and Bent, and the leaders of the Conservative party. The principal leaders of the Liberals abstained from discussion. Finally Mr Service's amendment, setting forth that the Ministry do not possess the confidence of the House, was carried without a division. The House then adjourned. It is expected that the Ministry will resign to-day.
(Received March 6, 9.30 p.m.) Sydney, March 6. An immense and enthusiastic meeting to protest against Mr Redmond's mission on behalf of the Irish National League was held here this evening. Sir- Henry Parkes and several members of Legislature, besides ministers of the the various religious denominations, were present. The meeting at one time was very disorderly. The speakers were unable to obtain a hearing, and free fights between the supporters of Mr Redmond and his opponents occurred. The malcontents, however, were forcibly ejected from the hall, and resolutions of protest were passed. The contest between Messrs M'Elhone and Taylor, for the representation of Mndgee, took place to-day, and resulted in the defeat of M'Elhone. ♦ LATEST ENGLISH NEWS. PARNELL'S VISIT TO AMERICA. IRISH REFUGEES IN FRANCE. [SPECIAL TO PRESS ASSOCIATION.] London, March 2. Mr Parnell will visit America next month in connection with the affairs of the National Land League. It is stated that his visit is intended to account to the Irish Americans for the disposal of the Land League funds. It is believed that a number of Fenian agitators concerned in the Phoenix Park and other Irish outrages have taken refuge in France, but the French Government have declined to assist the English authorities in bringing them to justice.
