COLONIAL REVENUES. A CAPTAIN AND SIX OF CREW WASHED OVERBOARD. MESSAGERTES MARITIME LINE OF STEAMERS. THE NEW ENGLAND WRECK INQUEST. (Received January 1, 9.20 p.m.) Melbourne, January 1. The Victorian revenue returns for the past quarter show that the receipts for that period amount to .£1,450,000, being an increase of £76.253 compared with the corresponding quarter of last year. The revenue for the year amounted to £5,690,000, being an increase of £269,000. Arrived, last night, the Orient steamship John Elder. (Received January 2, 1 p.m.) January 2. The ship Thirl mere, from London, reports that on the voyage she spoke the barque Undine, bound from Cardiff to Colombo. The captain and six of the crew of the latter had been washed overboard in a heavy gale. Tattersall’s Cup yesterday was won by Morpeth, after a grand race, (Received January 3, 12.40 p.m.) January 3. The South Australian revenue for the past quarter was £473,000, being a decrease of £70,000 as compared with the corresponding quarter of last year. The revenue for the past half-year is is £96,00, below the estimate. (Received January 2, 1 p.m.) January 2.

The inquest at Clarence on the bodies of those drowned by the wreck of the New England was concluded to-day. The jury censured the pilot at the Heads for neglect of duty, in not rendering assistance to the steamer.

The Treasury returns show that during the December quarter the revenue of New South Wales amounted to £2,080,000, being an increase of £163,000 as compared with the corresponding quarter of 1881. For the year just ended the total revenue was £7,420,000, being an increase of £704,000 on the year 1881.
