BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, May 18. The Irish judges have taken steps to protest against the clauses of the Irish Repression Bill, which provides for suspension of juries in Ireland. It has now been ascertained that the ten men, who were recently arrested on board the steamship Egypt at Liverpool, on suspicion of being concerned in the assassination of Lord Cavendish and Burke, were only stowaways. In the House of Commons last night the Irish Representation Bill was read a second time by a majority of 45. In the course of the debate whicli took place, Gladstone stated that the provisions of the bill had been long planned by Government, and were not merely intended as an act of resentment for the murder of the Irish Secretary. Capetown, May 18. The elections which have been held in Natal, with the object of tasting public opinion in regard to Lord Kirnbtrley’s offer of autonomous government to that colony, have resulted in the votes being adverse to the proposals. Vienna, May 18. Intelligence is to hand that 10,000 starving refugee Jews are now encamped near Brody, a town ou the Polish frontier of Galicia (Austria.) The greatest destitution is reported to exist among them. AUSTRALIANS Y. SUSSEX. London, May 18. The Australian cricketers commenced their second match to-day against 11 of the County of Sussex at Brighton. The weather was fine throughout the day, and the attendance was large. A capital wicket was pitched, and the ground was in good order. The Sussex Eleven went in first, and were all disposed of for 95. Palmer howled splendidly, and did the “ hat trick,” taking in all 8 wickets for 48 runs. At the close of the day’s play the Australians had put together 250 for the loss of two wickets, the following being the scores; Massie, c, 45; Bannerman, c, 60; Murdoch, not out, 109; Horan, not out, 41. May 19. In the cricket match, which is now proceeding at Biighton, between the Australians and Sus.-ex Eleven, the former have concluded their first innings for a total of 64^. LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, May 20. Sir Bryan O’Longhlen, as Treasurer, will deliver his Budget Statement in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday next. The perpetrator of the dynamite explosion at Prahran yesterday has not been arrested. News has been received that an outbreak of cholera has occurred at Sumatra, and Lord Kimberley requests that the colonies will quarantine vessels arriving from that country. Adelaide, May 20. The Adelaide St. Leger was run today, and was won by Darebin. Brisbane, May 20. Telegrams from Cardwell report that there is a possibility of the steamer Ranelagh being floated off King’s reef, but only at a great expense.
