Melbourne, April 13. The P. ami steamship Clyde, with the homeward Suez mails, sailed before the arrival of the Albion, and the New Zealand mails lor England via Suez and Brindisi, are therefore detained. Arrived this evening, the Union Company’s steamship Albion, from Bluff. Svoxet, April 14. At to day's meeting of the Australian Jockey Club at Ramlwick, the iace for the Cumberland Stakes resulted in a dead heat between Lord Bnrghley and the Drummer, with Progress third, alter a splendid race. Six hotses started. Time—3min. 45seo. A deputation consisting of Messrs Watt, Mui ray, Allsop, and 1 Hayes, waited on the Postmaster General today to urge the desirability of adopting the reduced rate* for cable messages (wkich is now in force in New Zealand) for telegrams from Australia to New Zealand, The- Hon. Henry Bolton- returned a satisfactory reply, and stated that he would endeavor to 1 accede to the request of the depu'atloc.
