THE INTERVIEW WITH THE MINISTER OF MINES. REPLY TO THE DELEGATES. [special to kumara times.] Wellington, April 12. The following is a copy of the written reply foi warded to Messrs G. G: FitzGerald and It. J. Seddon, M.H.Hs.- re the payment for water in advance : "■ Gentlemen—After having carefully considered the question of credit and advance payments for water and the use of sludge-channel to the miners at Kuuoara, and moved by your stron" representation upon the subject as to the inconvenience of introducing the prepayment system at present, I agree to postpone the introduction of the advance system for a time, until more of
the claims are opened out and in full working order. " With regard to your recommendation as to the free use of the sludgechannel at the opening*out claims, and the manner of computing payment for its use, I 6d hot. concur,'and will therefore leave the regulation recently issued intact on tliese points. I will have a clause added to the regulations giving priority of right to the use of sludge-channel on Oie order of registration of tail-races running into it. " There will be a penalty of twenty shillings per day for using the channel without the Manager's permit. • " The verbal alterations suggested by you will also be severally embodied iu the regulations. " (Signed) • M W. ROLLEStON, *' Minister of Mines." The question of increase of watersupply for Kumara and the construction of the Mikonui reee was fully discussed. The Minister wished to have the opinion of experts as to extent of payable drift, and length of time it Would take to work iu before any final decision be arrived at. The late Premier's health is hluch improved. Sir George Grey has been sent for by his Excellency, to advise on the situation. The Post and Times strongly condemn this course. The general opinion is that Sir G. Grey will not undertake to form a Ministry, but advise Macandrew being sent for. ' Should a new Ministry' be formed outside the late Government party, Parliament will-likely be further prorogued. [NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.!
