MESSRS FITZGERALD AND BEDDON IN WELLINGTON. [special to KUMARA times.] Wellington, April 8. Messrs Seddon and Fitz Gerald arrived per steamer from Wanganui yesterday, and interviewed the Colonial Treasurer re Christchurch and Dillrnan’s Town road. Government will pay the extra £/60 which it has cost over and above the amount voted. A special subsidy was asked for out of the vote for subsidies to Goldfields’ counties so as to place the County finance on a better basis. This, together with the water and sludge-channel disputes, are to ho decided on Monday, when the delegates will meet the Minister of Mines and the Colonial Treasurer. The Hon. the Premier is still very unwell. The question of the Christchurch mail bring conveyed via Dill man’s Town and Knmara will then be also brought before the postal authorities.

Napier, April 6. Information has been just received that Th Rana Tirahunue, a Maori, was killed by his nephew, Tamati Puru, on Wednesday evening at Waia Matutitutu, near Awanui, East Coast. The parties had a fight, and the prisoner hit his uncle with a blunt instrument, inflicting a wound which resulted in death. Captain Preece leaves by next steamer to hold an inquest. Christchurch, April 5. The interprovincial fonr-oared boat race between Otago and Canterbury was won by the latter easily by eight lengths. Both crews got away fairly
together, but after the first mile Canterbury took the lead and maintained it to the finish. Distance, miles ; time, 12min. 25acc. The Otago men were gieatly fancied in the betting market. Both teams dined together this evening. One of the West Coast coaches belonging to Mr Rugg, and driven by Rountree, capsized yesterday in Porter’s Pass. The Rev. Mr Standage, of Greymouth, was badly cut about, but none of the other passengers were severely injured. Wellington, April 6. No communication has yet been received by the New Zealand Government with regard to the missing vessel Minqaden. The Premier is not so well to-day, and is still confined to his house. A conference of Ministers was held at his residence this morning, which it is understood bad reference to the rumored resignation of the Premier. Nothing, however, was decided. A sitting of the Appeal Court will be held at Wellington on the Bth. The Gazette notifies that the Post Office, Money Order Office, Telegragh Office, and Government Life Insurance Office, will tie open at the Exhibition Buildings, Christchurch. The appointment of W. H. Levin, M.H.R., as consular agent for the United States at Wellington, is gazetted. A man named Richard Candy was ran over by a truck on the sidling running from the Pctoni railway station to Gear’s slaughter yard. He died from the injuries received. Deceased was in the act of jumping on the truck when the door gave Way and threw him under the tVheelsi Dunedln, April 5. To-day at the Supreme Court, James Henderson was found guilty of forgery. Sentence was defeired. The other cases were of no importance. Much merriment was created in Court by an answer of one of the witnesses. A woman being interrogated as to her present lesidence, she smilingly answered. “ I live with Mr Caldwell.’ 1 Mr Caldwell is the chi f gaoler. Three cases remain ; the Queenstown arson case will be taken on Wednesday nefct. The Court of inquiry into the Wai-taki-Koputai collision was concluded to-day, and the judgment found was “ That upon the evidence a prinia facie case had been made out against Matthew Craig Moffat, second engineer of the Waitaki.”
