[NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Nelson, March 18. News has been received from Weat Wanganui, which gives glowing accounts from Golden Ridge Company's mine at Anatori. This company which has for a long period been declaring dividends, ia stated to have struck a reef showing good gold, and it is stated that some of the stone gave 2oz. of gold to the dish, and the latest report states some two tons of stone have been taken out of the reef which was estimated to yield at the rate of lOOoz. to the ton. Lyttelton, March 18. Last night the house of George Baker, London street, Lyttelton, was burned down. Baker, his wife, and five children, were a deep at the time, and narrowly escaped. Yery little was saved. The fire evidently began in the kitchen fire place. The house was insured for £2OO, and furniture £l5O in the Victoria Company. Dunedin, March 18. At a meeting of the Committee of the Kaitangata Relief Fund, held yesterday, the statement of accounts showed that £I2BB 12s 8d had been distributed during the year by fortnightly allowances to the widows and families of those killed in the Kaitangata coal mine explosion. The amount invested is £13,700 and the interest received thereon was £1259. The trustees start the year with a balance of £219.
REEFTON RACES. Reefton, March 18. The interrupted r.toes were resumed under apparently favorable aspects, and the Goldfield's U andicap was run with seven starters. This was won by Fishhook, Bide-a-Wee a good second, Forester, 3. The District Handicap Trotting Race followed next, with Black Bess, 1 ; Dolly, 2. By this time the rain began to pour down, and the races were again postponed. The Hurdle Handicap, on the programme of the first day was ordered to stand over with the whole of the events for the second day. CHRISTCHURCH AUTUMN HANDICAP WEIGHTS. Christchurch, March IS.
