An inquest was held to-day on the bodies of Mrs H. Simpson and her six children, who were burned alive yesterday, at West Eyreton. The jury, after viewi-g the remains, and taking evidence, said there was nothing to prove the origin of the fire, and an open verdict was returned. AUCKLAND REGATTA. Auckland, January 30. The regatta passed off successfully. The Champion Trading Race, for r>ris?antine schooners, round Tiri-tiri, was won by the Transit, after a splendid race, by lmin. 43sec. from the Torea, after deducting time allowance, 2min. 12<ec. Prize £75 and New Zealand Company's cup, value £25. The Yacht Race for New Zealand Company's cup, value £25, was won by T. Henderson's yacht Rita, beating C. 11. Street's Winona. Bidley, in the four-oared gig race for all-comers, beat Ponsonby easily. Carter, Floyd, and White rowed in the latter boat. In the Scullers Race for all-comers, White defeated Carter easily.
