The royal mail steamer City of Sydney which has arrived at San Fruncisco with the Australian and New Zealand mails, reports that tribal hostilities are expected to break out at Api, one of the islands of the South Pacific. January 19. Further intelligence to hand regarding the peace settlement arrived at between Chili aud Bolivia announces that the treaty provides for the cession to Chili of a strip of Bolivian territory lying between the Andes and the coast, and hounded on the north and south by the Peruvian aud dhili-m frontiers respectively. January 20. The Daily News to-day publishes a telegram from India stating that a serious conspiracy has been discovered in the independent native state of Nepaul. The Maharajah has caused eight of his notables to lie arrested, and twenty-two of his officers who were proved to have taken part in the conspiracy have been summarily executed. The Homeward mails via Suez and Brindisi, which left Melbourne on December 7, were deliveied here to-day. Vienna, January 20. Telegrams have been received announcing that actual hostilities have now commenced between the Austrian troops and the insurgents in the Herzegovina. Fighting has already taken place at several places, but no engagement of any serious character is as yet leported as having occurred. —♦ LATEST AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Adelaide, January 20.
