[new ZEALAND I'RESS ASSOCIATION.! Thames, January 20. Rain has continued during the greater part of the night and from 10 yesterday morning. On full tide last evening all I I ~ the lower portion of the town was under water, and this morning there was 3ft. of water in the principal street, doing considerable damage to business places. TIMAR tf , January 20. Heavy rain has been falling for the. last 48 hours, and there are no signs of its ceasing. The rivers are. rapidly rising, and it is feared that if the rain continues the crops will be seriously damaged. Wellington, January 21. The Union Steamship Company agree to convey the Volnnteei members of the New Zealand Rifle Association to and from Nelson on the same terms as last year, viz., return tickets at single fares. THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION. Christchurch, January 21. It appears to lie definitely settled that a portion of Hagley Park will be granted for the purp-se of the International Exhibition. In answer to the City Council and Domain Board, the Premier has replied—“ When particulars of plans and conditions are received, the preparation of the lease will be undertaken without delay.” It was intended to lay off the site to-day, but owing to incessant rain it was postponed. It has been decided to enlarge the 1 uilding for the Exhibition by increasing the width, so as to admit of (our additional bays, each 15ft. hy 12ft. in each end. This arrangement will provide eight more hays with a total space for exhibition purposes of 1440 square feet. The gang ways or approaches to these bays will cover some 480 square feet, so that the total area of the additions will be 1920 superficial feet. The dimensions of the enlarged building will he—length, 668 ft.; width, 282 ft.
