THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
Mr R. J. Si’.ldc >n addressed a crowded meeting of the electors last evening, at the Ri npive Hotel, Dillmau’s Town. Mr David Beatty was called to the chair.- At the conclusion of his address, many questions were asked the candidate, which received prompt and apparently satisfactory replies ] and then, on the motion of Mr W. Mortis, seconded by Mr G. Mansfield, a motion “ That Mr Richaid John Seddon. is a fit and proper person to represent this district in the General Assembly” was unanimously canned, amidst loud and long-continued applause; A full report of Mr Seddon’s speech on the occasion will bo given to-rnorrow. Mr Blake’s meeting at Callaghan's last evening was delayed till $ o’clock, owing to the Rev. Mr Scott holding a fiuewell service in that place. At that time Mr.S. Honey was voted to the chair, and Mr Blake addressed the electors at considerable length, and replied to numerous questions ; after which, Mr S. Steel proposed and Mr Hunter seconded a vote of confidence, which was carried unanimously. Mr Frank Guinness, one of the three candidates for the representation of the Greymonth electoral district in the Mouse of lleprci-eetutivcs, addressed the electors at Foley’s Hotel, Westbrook, last evening, Thursday. The mom was crowded. Mr Duncan Fisher occupied the chair. Mr Guinness dwelt at considerable length on most of the subjects which are at present foremost in the minds of politicians, a lesume of which would be noticed in yesterday’s issue of this paper, being a report of Mr Guinness’s address at Greenstone the night before. Elastic reception, at Westbrook last evening. Man}' questions were asked of him, and subsequently, on the motion of Mr 0. Shepherd, seconded by Mr Donald Shaw, a motion “That Ml* Frank Guinness is a fit and proper person to represent the Greymouth district in the House of Representatives ” was unanimously carried.
