BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, November 28. Government have been summoned to meet for tiie despatch of business on tin* 9h February. Severe sentences of imprisonment have been passed upon persons convicted of bribery in connection with

the State elections at Macclesfield and Sandwich. Michael Boyton, one of the chief organisers of the Irish Land League, who was imprisoned on March 9, has now been released. Several further arrests have been made in various parts of Ireland. Among them is Nillen (sic), on a charge of rioting at Bruff, near Limerick. Cases of refusal to pay rent are now becoming general in the west and south. November 29. The ship British Navy, bound from London to Sydneyj while proceeding down the channel, came into collision with an unknown vessel off Deal. The former suffered severe injury, and sank shortly after the collision. Twenty persons on board were drowned. San Francisco, November 28. Arrived Pacific mail steamship Zealandia, from Auckland (November Bth) three days in advance of contract time. ♦
