Respecting Native interference with settlers at Cape Egmont, Government have received the following information ;—lt appears that a man named Fleming and his mate, were wo-'king on their section this morning, cutting and carrying posts, when about fifty Mamies came and ordered them to leave off work, at the same time taking back the posts which Fleming had brought out of the bush, the Maoris, using Maori and English, told Fleming and bis mate to stop work.” More than 200 small posts were taken off the land and thrown away ] some in the fern, and some in a swamp. The posts that were too heavy to be carried were chopped in two. Other fencing work was interfered with. After the Maoris had thus stopped the two men from woiking, they went away.
