[special to KUMARa times.] Wellington, September 22. 2.33 p.m. Government give to Boroughs 7s fid in the £, and to County Councils 10s, subsidy. The Appropriation Bill has passed. Parliament will conclude the present session at four o’clock to-day. The prorogation wiil take place on Saturday. The Native Minister leaves for Paru haka this afternoon. The Grey County Council Chairman contradicts sending the telegram re Gold Duty Abolition Bill. On inquiry it is found the County Clerk was the sender—a distinction without a difference.

Mr Seddon, M.H.R., and Mr j. B. Fisher, M.H.R. for Buller. leave Christchurch by Tuesday’s coach.

Wellington, September 21. The Mayor sent the following telegram to the American Consul-General at Auckland to-day ;—“ The Mayor of Wellington, in the name and on behalf of the City Council and inhabitants of Wellington, is desirous of joining in what must bn universal sentiments of sorrow, sympathy, and condolence, with the Government and citizens of America on the lamented death of their noble President.” The following reply was received from Mr Griffin:—“ The people of the United States will be profoundly gratified for your .sympathy. Your message will be cabled to Washington.” A letter has been received in town from the wife of Captain Lindsay, who is residing at Christchurch, which states that the barque Rodell Bay, which left San Francisco in December last, under the command of Captain Lindsay, has not since been heard of, and is now given up as lost. The Rodell Bay was the vessel which conveyed to Wellington the first shipment of water pipes for the Wainuiomata Waterworks. Fiji NEWS. Auckland, September 21. The Southern Cross has arrived from Fiji with the following news : The detached squadron arrived at Levuka on tbe 3rd September.' The inhabitants exerted themselves to their utmost to entertain the officers and men.
