DEATH OP PRESIDENT GARFIELD.
Wasiiixgton, September 20. Accounts to hand this morning from Long Brandi slate that the President died calmly at 10.50 last night. At 10.25 be was sleeping quietly, when he
awoke with pain in his heart, and in 15 minutes breathed his last. Mrs Garfield was present at his death bed. In consequence of President Garfield’s decease, the Cabinet , has summoned General Chester Arthur, VicePresident, to fill the Presidency for the unexpired term-of nearly three years and six months.
