RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Tuesday, August 30. [Before H. A. Stratford, Esq., R.M.] CIVIL CASES. The Court opened at 9 a.m., and the following civil cases were disposed of:— Aciu'son v. Moratti, a claim for £±. — An order was made for the defendant to {«»y the'am unit by instalments. In the case of Acheson v. Martha, a claim for .£l3 2s 6d, the Court declined to make an ordor.

Wakefield v. Hendry, a claim for £7. —No appearance of either party. — Case stiuck out.

Cairns v. Hayes and Lyuch. —Mr Perkins appeared for the plaintiff. This was a case in which defendants were sued for the amount of £25 12d Gd, asserted to have been earned in carting

timber for the bridge over the Greenstone Creek at Westbrook. The defence was that the contract had not been carried out in a proper manner. Evidence was taken at considerable length, and judgment was given for the plaintiff for J-16 15s 6<l, with costs. Den field v. Hackett, a claim for £4 3s 9d.—There was no appearance of the defendant.—The evidence of the plaintiff was taken} and judgment deferred. Ryder v. Ryder.—This was an application for an order under the Married Woman's Protection Act.—Mr Perkins appeared for the plaintiffi—The Court granted the order.
