WATER-SUPPLY COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Water-supply Committee was held at Dillman's Town last evening. The following members were present:—Messrs Agnew, Dungan (in the chair), F. Barrowman, Wheeler, and Morris (secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman stated that he had complied with the wishes of Committee by forwarding a report to the County Council re the interview with Minister of Mines regarding water-races.
The Secretary remarked that their business that evening waa to have brought their affairs to a close. He had attended a public meeting of the Prospecting Association on last Monday evening, when that body voted a few pounds to the committee to clear off remaining liabilities. He had received a cheque from Mr Nicholson. He then waited upon Mr Pearn, as Treasurer, who signed it; and, on applying to Mr Blake also for his signature, he positively declined to do so. He (Mr Morris) at once returned the cheque. Such conduct he would characterise as a gross affront to themselves and those they represented.
Mr AgneW said that the insult given was a direct one—not alone to themselves, but those they had long worked hard for, and also the subscribers who attended the public meeting, wbo after fair consideration, saw fit to vote a small sum of money to their committee. He begged to move, Mr Wheeler seconding:— "That Messrs Barrowman, Morris, and Dungan, on behalf of the Committee, bring the matter under the notice of the public by forwarding a letter to the Kujiara Times for publication. [This letter appears under the " Correspondence " beading.] The meeting then adjourned until Saturday evening, the 3rd of September
