STONEWALLING THE REDISTRIBUTION OP SEATS BILL.

Wellington, September 1. The stonewalling is still going on. Mr Seddon has just finished after keeping the ball rolling for three hours. The House has been in Committee since yesterday. Each party have organised relays who relieve each other every eight hours. The amendment moved by Mr Seddon "That the property franchised be abolished" is the question under discussion. This has been discussed this last sixteen hours, and there is no sign of its close.

Messrs Reid, Gisborne, Fisher, and Weston do not assist. Reid is steadily voting and supporting the bill. He seems to have made up his mind not to stand again ; while he is here trying to do all the harm he can.

Two severe shocks of earthquake took place at twenty minutes past two this morning. Mr Reeves is now speaking. He cracked a good joke by saying the powers below were interfering to prevent Government doing an evil.
