Dunedin, July 20. The case oF Mercer and wife v. Queen was concluded to-day. A verdict was returned of £750 for damages sustained by plainttrf beiug cnpsised out of a buggy, through a telegraph wire "being left across the road by a workman engaged repairing it. Christchurch, July 18. Measles are prevalent just now. 150 children in Sydenham District School have been withdrawn, and also 50 or 60 in another school in south of Ch.-isU church. There are thirty cases typhoid fever raging at present, and three deaths have occurred, all traceable to the oue dairy before alluded to. July 19. A violent sou wester, with heavy rain, has been raging all day, and is still blowing. The man Peterson, who committed a murderous assault on Sunday evening with a billhook, was remanded to-day for medical examination. The Bench expressed doubts as to bis sanity.
