KUMARA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
*. . A. meeting of the Kumara School Committee was held in the Town Hall last evening; present—Mr Campbell (in the chair), Messrs Rudkin, Metcalf, Galland, and Wylde. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. An application from Mr Fennell for the use of the Greenstone school was granted. A certißcate from Dr. Porter notifying the illness of the head teacher Kumara State School, Mr Wilson, was read and received.
An estimate for repairs to the. State School being submitted, it was resolved to forward same to the Board. It was resolved that the Central Board be informed that no children had been expelled from the school. It was resolved that Mrs Williams' letter re the Kindergarten system of instruction of infants be referred to the Central Board.
A report from the sub-committee re Mr Keenan's complaints being read, it was resolved that Mr Keenau be informed that this Committee has no control over the sale of books, that being a matter resting between the Central Board and the head teacher; but the opinion of this committee is that all children attending the school should be supplied with books when they wish to purchase them. Also, with regard to his other complaint, that he be informed that the teacher acted in accordance with the rules. Accounts to the amount of £lB Os 6d were passed for payment.
It was resolved tbat the Secretary be instructed to contradict the statement made by Mr Petrie, of Greymouth, that the Board were supplied with requisites free. The meeting was then adjonrned.
