London, March 12. The Conservatives oppose Gladstone's urgency resolution in Committee of Supply. Fewer arrests are now being made in Ireland of minor offenders. Grant Duff, speaking at Oxford, said that the Liberals were in no way to blame for the disasters that had occurred to the British arms. He asserted that Lerd Carnarvon, in consequence of his action when Secretary of the Colonies, was the real cause of the Transvaal difficulty. In the case Clark v. Bradlaugh, an action brought against the member for Northampton, for illegally taking his seat in the House of Commons, judgment has been given for plaintiff on the main question. Since the decision Bradlaugh has absented himself from the House. Gorst has given notice of his intention to move that a new writ be issued for Northampton. Bradlaugh offers to resign his seat and seek re-election. In the Divorce Court, Farrell V. Powell, in which petitioner sought to obtain a divorce from his wife on the ground of adultery, the Court condemned the co-respondent, Captain Powell, of the Orient steamer nia, to pay £SOO damages. Messrs Lurd, Williamson, and Co., East and West India and Cape merchants, Fenchurch street, have failed for £IO,OOO. Lord Granville, Foreign Secretary, has denied in the House of Lords that Great Britain is seeking to prolong the armistice with the Boers in the Trausvaal.
