In the course of to-day's bankruptcy proceedings, Judge Gillies stated his intention of refusing to grant an order of discharge to debtors in any cases where there were no assets, unless the debtor came into Court with a resolution from the creditors asking fur a discharge. M'Keay, counsel for the bankrupt, was taken by surprise at his Honor's ruling, and stated that the rule here hitherto had been to grant a debtor his discharge when there was no opposition. His Excellency the Governor and suite visited the head of Lake Wakatipu to-day, and will return to Dunedin direct to-morrow. Christchurch, March 21. The Orari arrived last night with 51 passeegers all well. Her stay in port will be brief, as the Company intend fo despatch her by March 31. She left London on November 27. Her lengthy passage was due to calms and head winds. The voyage was very pleasant all through. Auckland, March 21. A miner named Bourke Webster, in the Queen of the North claim, Coro-
mandel, has disappeared very mysteriously. He was last seen washing a prospect near the workings; and his coat, tools and canteen were found at the works. A hundred men are searching for the body. The proprietors of the American Diorama were fined £5 and costs for permitting a lottery. The house of Bruce, a shoemaker on the Narangahapi road, was broken into last night, and £l4 taken. An attempt was made to burn down the house. The police are investigating the matter. An inquest has been held on the body of Ada Ludlett, a patient in the Asylum, who died suddenly at the Asylum. At the post mortem examination a button was found in the larynx below the vocal chords.
