ARAHURA ROAD BOARD.

A petition, signed by the Chairman of the Arahura Road Board and about three hundred and sixty ratepayers, praying that the Board be dissolved, and that the district over which it has jurisdiction be merged into the Westland County Council, was yesterday presented to that body by Mr M‘Whirter, and received.

Subsequently, in the County Council, the following motion, proposed by Mr Jack and seconded by the County Chairman was carried relative to the merging of the Board That this Council will, on the Avahura Road Board handing over any moneys now in hand, and assisting the Council to wind up its affairs in a satisfactory manner, pay 20 per cent, in cash to the Board’s creditor's, the balance by two bills at six and twelve mouths, and will merge the Board when the necessary process, as provided by law, has been complied with.” At the evening sitting of the same body, the Chairman moved —“ That on a petition being presented praying the Council to merge the Arahura Road Board, a Special meeting of the Council be held on Thursday, the 17th day of February, 1881, at 12 noon, for the purpose of making a special order declaring the said Road Board to be

abolished and the said road district merged into the. County of, Westland.” He foupd on looting over the Act, that it would be necessary to give notice by advertisement, of the petition. Hd therefore, ashed leave to amend thd ibbtion by substituting the Bth March instead of the 17th February, as the date for the Special meeting. The motion, as amended, Was carried* Mr Dale dissenting.
