BRITISH AND FOREIGN. London, June 10. The Secretary of State for the Colonies, Earl Kimberley, has sent an official despatch to the Lieut-Governor of Natal, instructing him to avoid any extension of territory, to be a plea for disputes between the colonists and native tribes, and to abstain from any interference with free tribes. Information has been received that the Albanians are disbanding, and the resumption of hostilities with Montenegro is not improbable. The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day against 11 of Yorkshire County, at Dewsbury. The ground was not in good order. The Home team went in first, and their innings closed for 55. Spofforth and Palmer each took five wickets. The Australians then went in, but only succeeded in scoring 65. The Yorkshiremen commenced their second innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had scored 51 runs with the loss of only wicket. The race for the Ascot Gold Cup took place to-day, and resulted as follows : Isonomy, 1 ; Chippendale, 2 ; Zut, 3. Mr Gladstone, as Chancellor of the Exchequer proposes to reduce import duty by a tax on beer. He further proposes to increase the cost of spirit licenses and to increase the Income Tax by 2d. These charges will show a surplus of £381,000. June 11. The increase which the Chancellor of the Exchequer proposes to make in the Income Tax will be a Id not 2d as first understood. The Homeward Austrrlian mails, via Suez and Brindisi, Which left Melbourne on April 28, were delivered to-day. The Homeward mails, per Orient steamship So rata, via Brindisi, were delivered to-day. Gordon Pasha has gone to China. The match between the Australians and eleven of Yorkshire was concluded to-day. The Home team continuer] its second innings, and scored 10C. Spofforth took six wickets. Boyle’s fielding in this innings was excellent. The Australians then requiring 91 runs to win went in, and made the necessary score with the loss of only five wickets, and won by the same number of wic-
kets. M’Donald’s second innings for the Australians made the highest score of 47, and was caught out. Calcutta, June 10. The- 'Viceroy of India has sent an order to General Stewart to evacuate Cabnl by November. It is expected that Gunnamnk, Sutargardan, will lie the extreme points in Afghanistan, that will be retained by the British. Berlin, June 11. The Committee of the Lower House in the German rejected the Bill which was introduced by the Government for the mitigation of Falk or May Laws, in the direction of provid ng large concessions to Catholics in Germany. Valparaiso, June 11. The Chilians have captured Arica, a Peruvian seaport town.
