British and Foreign. .London, May 7. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,950,000 quarters. Best Australian beef tallow, 32s 6d ; best mutton, 34s ; Sydney copra, £l7. At the wool. sales to-day 8500 bales were offered, making a total of 164,000 catalogued since the opening. To-day's auction was marked by a slightly improved tendency. There is a fair demand for most description of hides. The Board of Trade returns of imports and fcxports for last month show a decided improvement.
The question of meat importations is seriously occupying public attention, and a prospectus has been issued of a Colonial fresh meat Company with a capital of £200,000, Half that sum will be issued and the company will commence operations immediately.
