THE EDUCATION RESERVE.
The following letter, received by his Worship the Mayor relative to the recommendation made by the Commissioner's to the Govtrnmnnt on the matter of the Ktrmara Education Reserve, has been handed ns for publication :
The discussion which ensued has enabled the Commissioners to give some response to the request contained in your letter to me, of the 11th February, 1880, that a -Cdnvenient date should be suggested for bringing the Kumara Education Reserve Act into operation, and that s"ome recommendation should be made as to the scale of fees to be charged under section 5 of the Act.
Upon the first point the Commissioners have expressed the opinion that if the Government has resolved upon bringing the Act into operation, there is no reason for delay in doing so, and that any early date niight be fixed for that purpose. With reference to the scale of fees to be charged, the letter states as foJlows: The Commissioners are now, and always have been, of opinion that no fees for occupation 'or mining ought to be charged, except those provided by the Mines Act, 1877, and the regulations made thereunder 5 but that such fees, including, of course, miners rights and business licenses, ought to be paid to the Commissioners.
