KUMARA BENEVOLENT SOCI ETY.
A meeting of tho members, of the above society was, held at the Town Hall last evening ) present—the. Rev. E. A. Scott (in the chair), the Rev W. West, his Worship the Mayor, and Messrs Duggan, Emiaerson-, and Munyard. .The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following report of the Committee appointed to draw up a code of rules to meet the requirements of the society: was read and received :—. ■ - Report. The Committee appointed to consider and draw uy a copy of the rules of the Benevolent Society have the honor to submit' the following for the consideration of the Committee “RUiES. “ That the society be called the Kumara Benevolent Society. ‘‘‘ The object of the society shall be to tietieyb aged, infirm, disabled, and other 'destitute .persons. ."‘Every annual subscriber of not less than 10s shall be a member of the society, and 'shall have the privilege of recommending cases for relief and of voting at the election of officers, and also will be elegible for -election, as such. The annual Subscription shall he payable in advance, fend shall be due on -the Ist January in each year, but may be paid quarterly or half yearly if preferred.
: _ “TheGommitteeof the aoeiety-shall con* sist of ten members, to be elected annually. The Mayor of the town, resident ministers of religion, Town Clerk, and •chief officer of Police shall be ex officio members. There shall be a Treasurer and Secretary, who may be either an ordinary -or ex officio member of Committee.- The •Committee shall have power to fill up •any-vacancies in its body. “The Committee shall meet on the first Monday in every month, and oftener -■whennecessary ; five to form a quorum. “A Chairman of Committee .shall be chosen at each meeting by the majority of those present. “ There shall be a sub-committee of five members (three to form a quorum) appointed by the General Committee, holding office for three months only, whose duty it shall be to investigate and deal with all applicationsfor relief,, and to report all its operations, to the General Committee at its monthly meeting. “The annual meeting of the society held in the month of April, in to receive the report and the amounts of the Committee and to select a. Committee for the ensuing year. ■ 4 ‘ All moneys shall be paid directly into ’the Union Bank, in the name of the Kumara Benevolent Society. ■ All payments to be made by cheques, which shall be signed’by the Mayor and Treasurer. as practicable, aid shall be •afforded by orders for goods rather than by payments of money,to applicants.” E. The rules were considered seriatim, and, after a few alterations, adopted with the amendments.
An Investigation and Relief Committee was appointed, consisting of the Rev. F. A. Scott, the Rev. Father M‘Caughey, the Rev. W. West, his Worship the Mayor, and Sergeant Eramerson, to deal with all cases of distress.
The names of Messrs Barrowman, M'Glone, Watham, Petrie, and- Bain were added to the Committee.
The Chairman reported having relieved several cases ol distress since the last meeting.
It was resolved that the Chairman attend the conference on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Bill, to be held in Kumara on the 24th inst., as a delegate from the society. The meeting was then adjourned.
