CENTRAL BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The following business in connection with "this district was transacted at the last meeting of the Board, held in Hokitika on Friday last:— CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr Coles, Westbrook School, resigned his position as teacher. Resolved, “ That the resignation of Mr Coles, as teacher at Westbrook School, be accepted.” From Mr Cato assistant teacher Kumara School, resigning his position in the school. Resolved, “ That the resignation of Mr Cato as school teacher of the Kumara School be accepted.” From the Secretary Kumara Committee, requesting the Board to furnish blinds and a set of maps for the Greenstone School. 1 Resolved, “ That the'Board furnish a set of maps for the Greenstone School free of charge. From the Inspector of Works* with reference to certain works at Westbrook and Knmara. Resolved, “ That the Inspector of Works be informed that lie having exceeded his duty in the matter of certain works at the Westbrook School, the Board decline to ratify the arrangements made as to the erection of closets, &c., without further information on the Subject.” RESOLUTIONS. Mr Seddon moved the resolution of which he gave notice at the previous meeting, viz., “ That whilst the Board recognise that , every praise is due to those teachers in the various schools, who have been during the past year working without a sufficient staff of assistants; yet seeing that it would be furnishing an undesirable precedent, and that there could be no definite basis fixed for determining the amount of payment, the Board cannot agree to the request made for.extra payment.” The resolution was seconded by Mr Parfitt, and carried. Mr .Seddon moved the resolution of which Jie gave notice at the previous meeting, viz., “ That Mrs Horneman’s fixed salary be raised to £IOO per annum, for the purpose of placing her in the position she occupied previous to obtaining a certificate from the Board.”

After an explanation made by tbe Chairman, Mr Seddon agreed to Withdraw his resolution.

Mr Seddon’s notice of motion, re the consideration of granting a bonus to teachers for teaching the art of singing was deferred till next meeting. The consideration of the Inspector’s report was deferred to the next meeting of the Board. Resolved “ That a list of the teachers in Westland showing their classification be laid before the Board at its next meeting.” Resolved, “ That Applications be invited for the position of assistant teacher at the Eumara School.”
